Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Dongyao Quarry and Xiyao Quarry of Yuquan region, Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province; the reference section for the Lower member of the formation is located in the areas of Tiancheng and Dujia Kilns of the Jiaojie Village, Acheng City, and the reference section for the Upper member of the formation is located in the Songjiang and Taoci Quarries of Yuquan region. It was named by Yu Jianzhan and Zhang Wentang in 1951.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Lower member of the formation is composed of light-grey thick-bedded marble, intercalated with thin-bedded clayey slate and crystalline limestone. Middle member of the formation is composed of thick-bedded limestone, yielding abundant animal fossils. Upper member of the formation is composed of black clayey slate, intercalated with crystalline limestone and marble. Thickness is over 1186 m.

Regional extent

Distributed in the areas of the Jiaojie Village, the Tiancheng Kiln, the Dujia Kiln, the Songjiang region, the Dongyao and Xiyao Kilns of the Yuquan region of Acheng City, Tieli City and the Cuiluan area of Yichun City.

Fossils

The Lower and Middle members of the formation yields brachiopods such as Marginifera jisuensis, Spiriferella simplex, Paeckelmanella alata, Dielasma itaitubense, Punctospirifer mongolica; Corals such as Cyathocarinia tuberculata, Tachylasma magnum, Timorphyllum, Metriophyllum ilitschense; bryozoan such as Stenopora permiana, Fistulipora sinensis. The Upper member of the formation yields brachiopods such as Marginifera morrisi, Yakovlevia mammatiformis, Waagenoconcha kryschtofovichi, Spiriferella persaranae; and corals such as Tachylasma magnum hexaseptatum.
